| Personal Injury: |
- Personal Injury- a civil wrong or wrongful act, whether intentional or accidental, from which injury occurs to another.
- Wrongful Death- when someone is killed because of the wrongful conduct of another, the heirs and beneficiaries of the deceased may file a wrongful death action against those responsible for the death. An action may be brought against an individual or an entity for any act which results in death, whether intentional or unintentional.
- Medical Malpractice- a negligent act or omission (failure to act) by a medical provider which causes injury to a patient. This may include surgical errors, treatment errors, misdiagnosis, failure to diagnose, failure to properly treat, and a host of other acts by medical providers.
- Products Liability- an action against the maker, designer, manufacturer, seller, or distributor of a defective product which causes injury to a consumer.
- Premises Liability- an action against a landowner for harm caused due to unsafe conditions existing on their property.

| Criminal Law: |
- Criminal law- the prosecution of a person by the government for an act that has been classified as a crime. A “crime” is any act or omission (failure to act) in violation of a public law forbidding or commanding it. Criminal law includes both felonies and misdemeanors.
- Felony- crimes punishable by confinement to a state prison for a year or more, or by death. Felony crimes include Murder, Manslaughter, Robbery, Rape, Kidnapping, Fraud, Drug Crimes, White Collar Crimes, and many others.
- Misdemeanors are crimes punishable by confinement to a city or county jail for less than a year. Misdemeanors include shoplifting, vandalism, harassment, domestic violence, perjury, loitering, and many others.
- Infraction- hese are not crimes and cannot be punished by prison confinement. Most infractions involve speeding tickets, traffic violations, failure to obey ordinances, or violation of a rule. They are generally punishable by fines or by the loss of a privilege, such as the suspension or revocation of a license
- Administrative Proceedings- are quasi-judicial proceedings held by government agencies such as DMV, or other specialized licensing boards, which may arise as a result of being charged with a crime or infraction.
